“I hope no one  uses the term illegal immigrants here today. Our citizens are not — the people  in this country are not illegal. They are are out of status. They are new  Americans that are immigrants,” said Rep. John Conyers Jr., Michigan  Democrat.

You would almost think a person serving in Congress from 1965 would at the very least know what or who an American is. When a person loses sight of who he represents or doesn’t actually know who he was elected to represent, it just may be time for him/her to step down. At the very least, this is a solid answer to the question of term limits and or age limits for elected officials. When someone enters this country illegally, they are illegally here. If that person is living here, they have immigrated. They are by the very definition of what they have done, illegal immigrants. And exactly who is he referring to anyway? Drug dealers and cartel members are all over this country. They are all illegally here. Human traffickers are here. Is he sticking up for them? Murderers and rapists are also here from the other side of the border. They are also here illegally. And what about all the other people not from the southern border here illegally? This warm fuzzy notion that some people have of those that are here illegally is enough to make one sick. To here people like him tell it, the only people here illegally are good , honest , hardworking people looking for a better life. What a country this Mexico must be to have only the best of the best born their.

But more to the point, Americans are Americans. And everyone else is someone who would like to become an American. Until that happens, any and every elected official should have at least enough common sense to know the difference. As someone elected to office in this country should know, your job is to protect and serve the people, and follow all the laws and to defend the Constitution of this country.

As citizen we have a responsibility also. To call in question all those who are not doing their job and seek to remove those who by thought or action would do this country harm. It would be fair to submit that any other member who is willing to be this confused about who is an American and who he or she represents should be called out and removed from office.
