Troops being sent to the border

Posted on May 25, 2010

This is a step in the right direction but far from what is needed to do the job. 1200 troops being sent to the border is about one sixth of what was asked for. This doesn’t seem like a honest effort to do much of anything to protect the border. Don’t get me wrong, something is better than nothing. But there is a difference between making something happen and pretending to make something happen. The message is clear at this point. We’ll do what we must but not what we need to do. And this message will not be lost on the drug cartels. A very clear and concise response was the message we should be sending. Not 1200 troops. More like 6 to 10 thousand troops. That would have been a clear message. This border is now closed. And for those liberals who care more for other people than they do for their own, it would have been the beginning of the end to the drug wars in Mexico. With no place to send the drugs there would be no reason to fight to control the border. And make no mistake about this, that drug war is on it’s way across our border. A strong presences now will work out better in the long run than doing nothing and trying to fight them later. 22,700 people have died in Mexico since 2006. All drug related. Cartel members, innocent people , mayors, elected officials and police. They will kill anyone who gets in their way. You want to stop that from coming here, not fight those people after they get here. 1200 troops are a start. But we need to get the message out in a very strong way that we are serious and should not be taken lightly. Don’t get caught up in the hype of closing the border and illegal immigration. One has nothing to do with the other.
